Racial Madness

Four blacks kidnapped and tortured a white mentally-challenged man while using “terrible racist statements.” (Torture streamed on Facebook Live!)

racial-madness

The Washington Post suggested it was inconsequential. CNN called it a “hazing.” One CNN panelist actually blamed Trump! NBC argued the thugs were not “truly trying to be criminal.” (Imagine saying that about the abominable Dylann Roof.)

The Chicago police refused to call it a hate crime. When is a hate crime not a hate crime? When its committed by blacks against a white male.

In related news, a university professor tweeted “All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide.” This professor remains employed.

Racial Healing Aborted

Barack Obama promised racial healing in America and racial tensions reached new heights under his presidency.

Despite Obama winning the presidency twice in a majority white nation, the racial grievance industry took control of the national debate. (No, not the KKK; the BLM.)

Phony Black Lives Matter narratives filled the airwaves, Internet, and social media.

Enslaved and energized by identity politics – and rejecting the promises and realities of Martin Luther King’s famous dream – the Black Lives Matter movement employed a range of racial myths to create a constituency and gain power and prestige. (Let’s not forget the money.)

quote-abraham-lincoln-freed-the-black-man-in-many-ways-dr-king-freed-the-white-man-how-did-ronald-reagan-137-80-36

Some of these narratives (e.g., “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”) have been proven totally false, yet they retain a visceral power which overwhelms reason and reality.

From Ferguson to Baltimore and across the nation, Black Lives Matter propaganda has destroyed communities and created chaos.

Riots are called “protests.” Murder is deemed “social justice.”

Root Causes

So-called “white privilege” is the latest bogeyman. But blacks are not victims of a fictitious “institutionalized white racism” or presumed “white privilege.”

Rather, some blacks are victims of a fifty-year-old War on Poverty and a welfare state which has become the new plantation – created by Democrats who treat them as children. The paternalistic state gone awry.

The welfare statenot white racism – has created generational poverty, generational broken homes, and a cultural of dependency justified by allegations that blacks are victims of white racism and the legacy of slavery.

Consequently, perceiving themselves to be victims, many feel entitled to whatever they can get from the government, becoming dependent upon that government. With it, comes rage against the injustices they perceive have been perpetrated against them. And with that comes a culture of irresponsibility.

quote-white-liberals-are-the-most-racist-people-there-are-because-they-put-blacks-in-a-box-benjamin-carson-93-91-53

David French observes, “When you celebrate thugs, you get more thugs.” He laments a “depraved culture” and “breakdown in law and order.”

French concludes: “Our nation’s social fabric is fraying — nowhere more than in Chicago. This is the Left’s city, a foundation of its national power. How many more people have to die before it changes course?”

Contemporary dysfunctional black communities are not rooted in America’s founding. Rather, one need only look to Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society and subsequent iterations of the welfare state and the adoption of progressive policies and political correctness to see the development and escalation of dysfunctional pathologies in some black (and a growing number of white) communities.

America No Longer Needs to Apologize for Slavery

My MSNBC Op-Ed (7/2/97), entitled, “America has acknowledged mistakes,” is as relevant today as it was twenty years ago. Here it is:

Kimberle Crenshaw writes about passionate “white opposition” to a formal apology for slavery (neglecting to mention the many blacks who oppose it as well). While citing their objections (in her terms: “personal denial,” “finger pointing,” “traditional historicizing,” and “new-age globalizing”), she fails to refute any of those arguments. She doesn’t even try.

Instead, Crenshaw questions the motives of those opposed to an apology, saying it “reflects a deep unwillingness to desegregate American history and to integrate American self-identity.” Self-flagellation is not my self-identity.

Crenshaw contrasts post-slave, post-apartheid societies with non-slave, non-apartheid ones, failing to note that all societies are at least post-slave and, even today, many societies remain slave societies. (Why is the Left always willing to condemn America but praise our enemies?)

Crenshaw accuses the right of explaining away the black underclass as a result of “inherent characteristics.” Wrong! The right recognizes that the welfare state promotes self-destructive behaviors and the underclass is enslaved to the welfare state. Let’s forget apologies and free the underclass.

Crenshaw desires “historical closure.” Most Americans have experienced “closure” with past slavery. Constantly tearing at the scab only causes the wound to bleed.

Par for the course, Crenshaw criticizes America’s Founding Fathers for expressing the ideals of liberty for all while condoning slavery. No one disputes the divergence of these ideals and their implementation.

Crenshaw insists that whites – and American culture itself – are in a state of denial about slavery (and other historical atrocities). Denial? Our cultural elites positively revel in past American misdeeds (while glossing over our triumphs and glories).

Is Crenshaw really suggesting that Americans are denying historical slavery? Is she subtly suggesting a moral equivalence between this perceived denial and those who deny the Holocaust?

Tragically, while her ancestors may have been enslaved in chains, Crenshaw (and others) have enslaved themselves to the past. She desires “a reopening of American historical memory,” as if anyone could “forget” American slavery. She wants an acknowledgement of America’s “tragic mistakes” but Americans have already acknowledged them.

We are fast approaching a new millennium. Isn’t it time to put the past behind us, to let the wounds heal, to live for the future? Until we do, this schizophrenic identity crisis will only exacerbate the already tumultuous times we are living in.

Commonsense Guns Laws

President Obama and the Left have recently called for “commonsense gun control laws.” They are right about the need for “commonsense” but wrong about the laws to be enacted.

The operative words in their mantra – “gun control” – reveal their intent and the heart of the problem: they reject “criminal control” laws (which would curb most gun violence) and they refuse to address the mental illness (which animates mass shootings).

GunLaws

What would Commonsense Gun Laws (not “gun control”) look like? Well, the exact opposite of what Barack Obama wants.

Here are a few areas where legislation and implementation of policies would immediately make America safer:

Eliminate gun-free zones. Virtually every mass shooting has taken place in a gun-free zone precisely because the killers knew they could maximize damage while minimizing risk. Federal buildings, banks, convention centers, and other venues have armed security forces which deter crime and prevent mass shootings. Why are politicians and the wealthy protected by armed security forces, but most Americans (even our children) unprotected and told to run for their lives if a madman targets them?

Expand private ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens. Make it easier for citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights and to thereby protect themselves, their families, and their local communities. Expanding the pool of law-abiding citizens who own guns makes it harder for criminals to do their own thing. As noted by National Review, “The number of guns in the United States has increased by 62% since 1994 but gun violence has decreased by 49% since 1993.”

Increase concealed-carry permits for law-abiding citizens. An armed populace is a deterrent to crime. When criminals don’t know who might be armed, they exercise far greater restraint in their criminal activities.

Stop coddling criminals. Giving criminals and rioters “space” to commit violence is lunacy. Providing politically correct rationalizations for criminal behavior encourages more criminal behavior. Releasing violent criminals in the interests of “fairness” endangers the American people. Get back to basics: If you do the crime, then you do the time.

Robustly address mental illness in America. Mental illness (not guns) is the root cause of most mass shootings.

Deport violent immigrants and illegal aliens. Violent crime by immigrants and illegal aliens is escalating. If they are unwilling to abide by our laws, then they should not enjoy the benefits of living in America. The first duty of government is to protect its citizens.

Reclaim the culture. This will be the hardest task of all. It requires restoring God and America to their proper places in the public school system and higher education, returning to traditional values and respect for our Judeo-Christian, Western Civilization heritage, and championing adherence to the Constitution. (Much of this is cultural, not legislative.)

The Great Society, victim culture (grievance culture), and growing sense of entitlement in primarily urban communities has engendered a culture of violence. Moreover, a culture which reveres cop-killers and promotes killing cops is dysfunctional to its core.

A culture which claims only black lives (and only those killed by white cops) matter, while all others do not, is a thoroughly bankrupt culture.

A culture which defends Planned Parenthood’s grotesque butchery while equating Southerners with Nazis – and gun owners as evil incarnate – needs rescuing.

A culture which tramples on the American flag and finds fault with everything American is suicidal.

The Left would have us do more of the same – extend the ever-expanding welfare state, subordinate local and state control to an all-powerful federal government, and escalate the demise of our American culture begun by the Countercultural Revolution of the Sixties.

Commonsense Gun Laws are indeed commonsense, but they are in opposition to the Left’s agenda of fundamentally transforming America. Most Americans want to restore American greatness and preserve (and expand) liberty, including adherence to the letter and the spirit of the Second Amendment.

Will the Constitution survive? Not if the Left succeeds in stripping it of its power.

Update: Like Socialism, gun control never works (unless, by “works,” one means limiting liberty and growing government). The following four charts demonstrate the fallacy of gun control logic.

Ask Hillary – and Other Democrats – This Question!

The liberal “mainstream” media regularly targets, en masse, Republican candidates with its narrative of the moment – and timid Republicans typically cower, duck and cover. The latest gambit – which the GOP fell for – was to demand an answer to a hypothetical question: “If you had known then what you know now, would you have invaded Iraq?”

Question

The correct answer, as David French noted, should have been “knowing now what we didn’t know then, the answer is a smarter intervention, not the same intervention – an intervention that combines the tactics and lessons of the Surge with the staying power we’ve demonstrated in other volatile hot spots, like Korea. The alternative – as we know – is a growing jihadist menace, genocide against Christians and other religious minorities, and increased instability in a geopolitically vital region.”

That is the Jeb Bush Question taken care of.

Now, let me offer you a Hillary Clinton Question. No, not about her myriad scandals, ethical lapses (can they be termed “lapses” if they are continuous?), and various missteps and imbroglios.

Instead – just as the Left targets the grand geopolitical thinking of the Right vis-à-vis military intervention – the Right should aim its sights a bit higher and larger in scope and ask the ultimate domestic policy question:

“If you had known then what you know now, would you have embraced LBJ’s Great Society and War on Poverty?

Follow-up questions:

“If so, what do you say to the millions of minorities who have been disenfranchised by these welfare programs? What of the broken lives, broken families, broken homes, broken communities, and broken social fabric in America which are a direct result of these disastrous programs?”

“How do you justify the heartache, the dashed dreams, lost hope, hate-filled anger, and desperate despair?”

“How do you justify squandering countless trillions of dollars which only served to produce counterproductive results?”

“How do you atone for resultant race riots, the destruction of whole communities, and the loss of life?”

“How do you restore the trust deficit between police officers and citizens that your liberal policies created? How do you restore the trust deficit between citizens and their government?”

“How can Americans entrust to you the future of these communities which have been devastated by your liberal policies if your only solution is to continue and expand those self-evidently destructive policies?”

Finally: “Will you do for the rest of America what you have done for Detroit, Ferguson, and Baltimore?

Race Myths Exposed!

Ben Shapiro provided an excellent analysis of the Baltimore riots and debunked five liberal race myths. Shapiro writes, “But the riots should also demonstrate conclusively that leftist myths about what drives race riots are just that: myths.”

Myths

They are:

  • The “White Police” Myth.
  • The “Evil Police Chief” Myth.
  • The “Evil Mayor” Myth.
  • The “Disproportionate White Power Structure” Myth.
  • The “Not Enough Government” Myth.

Shapiro concludes:

“Modern race riots do not occur because of the supposed white superstructure or a legacy of governmental underservice. They occur because valueless rioters act in valueless ways. Baltimore is evidence that glossing over lack of values with leftist pabulum about social justice doesn’t stop cities from burning.”

Baltimore ‘Purged’

Yesterday, Baltimore epitomized a divided America. On Monday, we saw a tale of two cities evoking the worst and the best of times.

Baltimore was in “total chaos, total anarchy,” experiencing “madness,” “mayhem” and “pandemonium” while “citizens [were] under siege.” “Baltimore is now a war zone.”

Purged

Yet, everyday citizens within their besieged communities risked danger to combat the unfolding evil. Some members of the community acted as human shields to protect the police from the mob, while many marched in unity to qualm fears and elicit peace. One mother publicly berated her son who had joined the rioters.

Baltimore Is Not Ferguson

Many politicians and pundits have conflated the tragic death of Freddie Gray while in police custody with the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, using the false narrative of endemic white racism[1] as a starting point for discussion. The racial grievance industry has a vested interest in perpetuating racial hoaxes for fun and profit.[2]

Baltimore is not Ferguson. John Schindler tweeted: “Baltimore has a black mayor, a black police chief & almost half the cops are black. This ain’t Ferguson, folks.”

As we await the conclusions of the various investigations into Gray’s death, let us remember that every investigation into Brown’s death absolved the police.[3]

We don’t know, yet, exactly how Gray died, but we should know soon. When we do know, we can take appropriate action.

Another difference: the Brown family called for Ferguson to be burned, while the Gray family petitions for peace.

Baltimore Is Ferguson

In some ways, though, Baltimore is like Ferguson. Like so many great American cities, decades of Democrat rule have taken their toll upon a people governed by various liberal policies.[4] (Take Detroit, for example.)

The racial grievance industry continually promotes its propaganda which, most often, finds fertile ground in the inner cities. As a direct consequence of their false racial narratives, many turn to violence, as we saw in riots stretching from Ferguson to, now, Baltimore.

Apparently the residents of Baltimore have a long history of tension with the police. But, more crucially, there is a generational, not just racial, divide in that city. Teenagers, raised in the petri dish of the welfare state and multiculturalism, have been indoctrinated into believing that America owes them for slavery, which has been abolished for more than one-and-half centuries. Taught that they are victims, they feel entitled to redress. For them, the welfare state is just the beginning.

(What about reparations? Been there, done that: remember the Civil War and the War on Poverty? Time now to stop identity politics.)[5]

Baltimore, like so many urban communities, is beset by competing worldviews, ambitions, and goals. Some are firmly fixed in that distant past of racial grievances and the so-called legacy of slavery. They have adopted a victim mentality and inculcated a sense of entitlement. A feeling that America owes them.[6]

Democrat-controlled cities, failed liberal polices, dysfunctional families and subculture – these are the root causes of the violence we have seen erupt in cities across America.[7]  As a direct result of these policies, the black nuclear family has been decimated and black criminality is entrenched in many communities.

In contrast, others are rooted in a more traditional past, filled with faith and values, optimistic for the future, embracing freedom and personal responsibility. For them, doing the right thing is always the right thing to do, even when it hurts. They value the goodness and greatness of America.[8]

Then there are the anarchists and professional activists who simply seek to destroy or to profit from that destruction.

Balancing Chaos

Baltimore – despite ample warning – was unprepared for the riots. Charles Krauthammer called it “a total failure of leadership” at the local and state levels.

The Mayor of Baltimore followed the leadership style of President Obama[9] and treated the rioters as if they had a right to riot. Stephanie Rawlings-Blake acquiesced to rioters when she said, “We also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well. We worked very hard to keep that balance.”

She wanted to balance free speech rights and anarchy?

baltimore-burning-nypost

As Ian Tuttle at National Review observes, “The reaction of the head of the government of Baltimore to the subversion of that government by wanton lawbreaking was to say that citizens were free to violently subvert that government – just as long as they did it in approved areas.”

It was, as one commentator observed, a “complete capitulation” to the rioters and anarchists.

When will the Left learn that coddling criminals invites crime and that appeasement never works?[10] Ask Obama. (Oh, that’s right, he still hasn’t learned that lesson.)

Later, Mayor Rawlings-Blake spoke the obvious: “It’s idiotic to think that by destroying your city, you’re going to make life better for anybody.” But “making life better” isn’t the purpose of riots. Anarchy and destruction are its own rewards.

A “Protestor” by Any Other Name

But how can you solve the problem when you can’t even identify it? It was jarring to hear rioters referred to as “protestors,” even on Fox News.

CNN’s Marc Lamont Hill actually regards these violent thugs as “resisters.” His rationale, which blamed the police and not the rioters, is as follows:

“We also, I think, have to be very careful about the language that we use to talk about this. I’m not calling these people rioters. I’m calling these uprisings, and I think it’s an important distinction to make. This is not a riot, there have been uprisings in major cities and smaller cities around this country for the last year because of the state violence that’s been waged against black female and male bodies forever.”

Hill continued:

“… we do have to understand that resistance looks different ways to different people. And part of what it means to say ‘black lives matter,’ is to assert our right to have rage, and righteous rage, and righteous indignation in the face of state violence and extrajudicial killing. Freddie Gray is dead. That’s why the city is burning, and let’s make that clear, the city is not burning because of protesters. The city is burning because the police killed Freddie Gray.”

The old Leftist argument that one person’s terrorist is another person’s patriot continues to fly in the face of reality and moral truth. Although the Sixties’ counterculturalists and their ideological progeny deny the existence of absolute truth and moral absolutes, their denial fails to change the reality in which we all live.

Haven’t we learned anything from Obama? The President cannot even call Islamic terrorism what it is – terrorism motivated by Islam.[11]

No Justice! No Peace!

Pastor Jamal Bryant concluded his eulogy for Freddie Gray by leading the congregation is a chant: “No justice! No peace!”

That popular slogan, in fact, is flawed and often used to incite violence.[12]

And that violence has been racially tinged. CNN correspondent Miguel Marquez described the mob as “Very, very angry to see anybody driving in a rental car who was not African-American” and said that they were “very, very threatening to us.”

Marquez also observed the generational aspect of the mob: “It was a frightening scene. Young people, male and female, holding rocks, bricks, bottles, sticks.” Most rioters were local youth, not outside agitators

Taking Back the City

The words and actions of people on the ground, politicians, pundits, the clergy, and ordinary citizens inspire hope and confidence.

150427172444-07-baltimore-protests-0427-exlarge-169

Largely ignored by the mainstream media, “Over 100 clergy marched through the streets of Baltimore last night in an effort to end the violence, and they did it without riot shields and military vehicles.”

Clergy, community leaders, and neighbors sought to bring peace back to the community. A group of mature men marched through the desolated city landscape singing the gospel song, I Will Trust in the Lord, which contains the lyrics, “I’m Gonna Treat Everybody Right.”

Prospective GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson, a former Baltimore resident, urged, “parents, grandparents and guardians to please take control of your children and do not allow them to be exposed to the dangers of uncontrolled agitators on the streets.”

One commentator urged, “Adults need to step up and be adults.”

Let’s be adults. Let’s “purge” immaturity from our lives and our communities.

Root of Evil: Let’s Put ISIS on Welfare

With an astonishing refutation of reality, the White House recently announced its latest “strategy” to defeat terrorism: welfare.

(Government-created jobs are often a form of welfare.)

ISISEvil

Last night, State Department spokesman Marie Harf explained the roots cause of terrorism: unemployment. Harf asserts:

“We cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs…We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people…”

Does this White House truly believe that we can bribe terrorists to stop terrorizing? How did that succeed domestically, with the establishment of the welfare state under Johnson’s War on Poverty to create a Great Society? The War on Poverty was a failure and the poster children of the Great Society are Ferguson and Detroit.

The Obama White House has merged a Roussean view of man as noble and innocent until corrupted by society with a Socialist view of economic determinism, wherein a person’s economic status determines his character. (One cannot discount this administration’s Islamophilia.)

The root cause of terrorism is not, and never has been, unemployment. The root cause of terrorism is evil, the evil that resides in man’s heart. And the specific manifestation of that evil which compels these evil men to kill, behead, terrorize, and destroy is a desire to fulfill the wishes of Allah and pursue Islamic jihad with the end goal of creating a global, infidel-free, Muslim caliphate.

Money, jobs, and any form of appeasement will not stay the hands of these evil-doers. Evil-doers! Appeasing Putin, the Castro brothers, Iran and other tyrannical states, will not end the tyranny. Evil exists. Evil in the hearts of these evil people.

Six years of appeasement has erupted the world in flames!

The Obama administration – and the Obama administration alone – is pathologically incapable of identifying the enemy and the origins of their behavior. The enemy is Islamic jihadists whose goal is to subjugate or annihilate all those who refuse to accept Allah as God. The origins of their behavior lie in the Koran and teachings of Mohammed.

But the suicidal nonsense from the White House continues even as the jihadists are hell-bent on enflaming the globe. Harf asserted: “We cannot kill our way out of this war.”

How ludicrous! We killed our way out of World Wars I and II. Wars end after the enemy has been defeated or destroyed.

Representing an administration clearly in denial, National Security Advisor Susan Rice recently claimed, “Still, while the dangers we face may be more numerous and varied, they are not of the existential nature of what we confronted during World War II or during the Cold War. We cannot afford to be buffeted by alarmism and a nearly instantaneous new cycle.”

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) disagreed with that assessment, declaring, “They [ISIS] are a dominant threat to peace in the world today. I really believe this. There’s never been a time when there are more threats to the United States than there is now. So as I said once before, we’re either going to fight them there or fight them here.”

America needs to engage and defeat the enemy in this world war, just as she did in the first two world wars. (Three world wars if you count the Cold War.)

Islamic jihadists pose an existential threat to America and the whole of Western Civilization.

Ferguson in Flames

The world erupted into flames last night – or at least that portion of the world known as Ferguson, Missouri.

Ferguson

Rioting and vandalism all in the name of “justice.” Justice?

I think not.

Truth eludes these rioters and their supporters. Emotions prevail over facts and reason. Propagandistic lies have been accepted as truth.

And violence ensues. Innocent people hurt. Property destroyed.

In the name of “justice.”

For these rioters, “justice” means acquiesce to their race-based agenda and endorsement of their perceived racial grievances. “Justice” means assuaging guilt by emotion. (Why are we guilty for their behavior?)

And the indoctrination by the mainstream media continues unabated.

But, blacks are not victims of a fictitious “institutionalized white racism” and presumed “white privilege.”

Some blacks are victims of a fifty-year-old War on Poverty and a welfare state which has become the new plantation – created by Democrats who treat them as children.

Victimhood, entitlement, dependency, irresponsibility.

We can add jealousy and greed; jealousy of what others have and greed for what they don’t have.

Many have bought into the propaganda espoused by Al Sharpton, Eric Holder, MSNBC, and other liberal media outlets. They have become caught up in the emotions, trapped by the alleged racial grievances. They are despondent or enraged.

(Anyone looking to Sharpton for leadership deserves to be deluded.)

Some people sport “I Am Mike Brown” shirts, actually identifying with a thug who, while on drugs, attacked a police officer after robbing a store.

As for the police, they have been cowed by the racial grievance industry and fear of the rioters. The police have adopted Obama’s pretend-you-have-balls strategy against aggressors, refusing to respond to the rioters, the vandals, the looters, the arsonists, those who urge violence, and those who perpetrate it.

Perhaps Eric Holder was right. Perhaps we are a nation of cowards – for not speaking up against the Eric Holders and Al Sharptons of this world and for not speaking the truth about the dysfunctional black community.

The dysfunctional black community (or any dysfunctional community of any race or ethnicity) must address its dysfunctions from within. It is culture, not race. Change the culture and you will change the outcome.

Don’t blame whitey. Take responsibility. Root out bad behaviors. Inculcate good behaviors.

Reward right behaviors and right values. Disincentivize bad behaviors and wrong values.

Return to traditional values and Christian mores. Be proud and grateful to be an American.

And please – pleasereject Obama’s big government, paternalistic, race-obsessed, socialistic “solution” to problems he and his ideology created in the first place.

Update:

Every single investigation into the Ferguson shooting – including the exhaustive federal Justice Department investigation – exonerated Officer Wilson and determined that the Hands Up, Don’t Shoot narrative was a lie.

Even though this false racial narrative – this myth – has been proven false, many media, political, and cultural elites continue to promote this false narrative and attack those who expose it as a fraud.

That false racial narrative plays into the fears of those who are race-obsessed or who have been indoctrinated into believing racial stereotypes, which is ironic given they accuse others of racism.
