DWTS and the New Sexual Revolution

Over the years, Dancing with the Stars has showcased some truly spectacular heroes: Noah Galloway and Nyle DiMarco spring to mind.

DWTS New Sexual Revolution

However, each season DWTS seems to get raunchier and raunchier, due, in part, to its sex-obsessed judge Bruno Tonioli. The libertine Tonioli recently choreographed a group dance in which the professionals and dancers repeatedly changed partners. In one segment, the dance partners – in intimate poses – were same-sex.

Headline: “‘DWTS’: Team Bruno kills it with ‘risky’ same-sex tango routine.” (The other judges agreed with that verdict!)

How far our culture has fallen! And how far are we from Judgment?

Tonioli said his dance routine was explicitly designed to send a message. That message: human beings (and human sexuality) are interchangeable.

No, they are not. The Hollywood Left continually pushes the boundaries of sexuality and diminishes monogamy. Indeed, monogamy almost seems taboo in Hollywood. They promote the notion that human beings are interchangeable, that serial relationships and one-night stands are normative, that standards and boundaries are nonexistent.

Our culture is permeated with sexually exploitative and sexually-numbing materials from magazines and advertisements to television shows and movies. Let’s not forget the Internet and social media. In all these forums and venues, traditional marriage and the ideals of purity and monogamy are dismissed or ridiculed.

“Traditional marriage” is called traditional for a reason. It’s roots are biological, cultural, and theological. In the Garden of Eden, God ordained marriage between a man and a woman.

As for sexuality, the Left’s version includes – and is in the process of codifying into law – scores of different sexual identities. The Left asserts an infinite variety and endless range of sexual possibilities. And it insists everyone fall in line and endorse those views. Hence these foolish controversies over bathroom laws.

In reality, human sexuality is binary: male or female. That is Biology 101. DNA tells us this! Moreover, Theology 101 informs us that human beings were created male and female. Not androgyny, not transgender, etc.

The Sixties Sexual Revolution continues to push the envelope, mainstreaming everything once regarded as taboo and upending the foundations of civilization. DWTS – as good as it can be and as good as it aspires to be – is part of the problem.

Innocence Celebrated!

Behold, the Virgin!

The bride was radiant, her father beaming, her groom enraptured.

A Waldorf, Maryland, couple were married last month. At the wedding reception, with about 2,500 guests attending, the bride “presented her father with a ‘certificate of purity.’” That’s right – a virgin.

Family and friends were joyful because this family and their church share values which most Americans held in the 1950s and early Sixties. They take God seriously and value the moral teachings in Scripture.

The certificate incorporates 1 Corinthians 6:20, which reads: “’Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

The bride’s faith is on display for all to see, as observed in these words on the certificate:

“On the 10th of May 2006, I, Brelyn Freeman, made a vow to glorify God in my body and spirit which are God’s because I have been bought with a price (Jesus).”

“I have kept this commitment and present this certificate to my father Dr Michael A. Freeman to show how I have honored God and my earthly father in my body by maintaining my purity and that my hymen is intact on this 10th day of October 2015.”

The bride, Brelyn Bowman (née Freeman), explained, “My whole message is embracing purity. It’s all about how you honor yourself and your God.”

Undoubtedly, God has blessed this union of two people devoted to Him.

Innocence Lost: Virginity Mocked

However, the usual suspects are offended at wholesome behavior.

For some on the Left, traditional values must always be ridiculed because the Sexual Revolution will never be over until all are in agreement with its values.

Moreover, Jesus pointed out an eternal truth which is relevant in this discussion: Those who love to sin in the darkness hate the Light. As Jesus said in John 3:20, “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”

This couple, pursuing godliness and extoling purity, exposes their critics’ evil deeds and the evil within their hearts. Instead of letting shame lead them to righteousness, these critics attack what they are not.

To a large degree, America’s sex-obsessed culture reflects a society which has lost its innocence. This is further reflected in sex education (indoctrination) in many public schools, K-12. Bruce Jenner, who now goes by another name and gender, is symptomatic of a culture which lives in darkness and fears the Light of godly people like the Freeman and Bowman families.

Let us all celebrate those who extol innocence and purity and seek to do our Father’s will.

Reflecting God’s Glory

You are all children of the light and children of the day.
We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
1 Thessalonians 5:5

Have you ever wondered about who you are? About your identity? Jesus sheds light on our quest in his Sermon on the Mount.

Early in his public ministry, Jesus declared his followers to be “salt of the earth” and “light of the world.” (Matt. 5:13-16)

As salt, we are both a preservative (stopping spiritual and moral decay) and an added flavor (giving others a taste of the kingdom to come). As light, we point others to the source of freedom and security – Jesus Christ.

Salt and light. That sounds like a tall order. But Jesus spoke in the present tense – “you are” – for a reason. We are salt and light precisely because Jesus himself – the true Light of the world and the Redeemer of mankind – lives in us.

Our identity changed when we were born again. We went from being Christ-less to Christ-like. How? By being Christ-filled.

We all began as “babes in Christ” and we are all somewhere on a spiritual continuum as we walk with Christ to become more and more like Christ every day.

The New Testament is replete with exhortations to God’s people to live as people of God. Those who are called Christians should actually be Christ-like.

Why? When the life of Christ is lived in us, we reveal Jesus to others.

In other words, our lives should reflect God’s glory.

If we truly experience God, we will be sharing Him – in our walk and in our talk.

Our conduct should reflect our identity as children of God. As the apostle John wrote, “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)

We do not belong to the night, we belong to the true Light of the world.

Jesus instructed us to “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)

Let’s do that starting today!

Blessed Are the Pure in Heart

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Matthew 5:8

What will it be like to see God? It will be awesome! We will see his purity in all its splendor and glory.

One of God’s greatest attributes is his purity. He is perfection, without blemish. His integrity is utterly pure. Spotless.

We see God’s purity in the sinless life of Jesus, who, though tempted in all things, always yielded to the will of his Father.

When we see God face-to-face, we will see him as he is. And we will be fully transformed into his image.

“But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him
as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation
will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.”
(1 John 3:2-3 NLT)

We should be pure just as Jesus is pure.

That is Jesus’ point in Matthew – to be pure in heart.

This is why Paul exhorts us to replace the old man with the new. We should eliminate those things in our lives that do not belong there.

Every time we seek and do God’s will instead of our own, we are being purified.

If we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ today, we will fully experience the purity of Jesus in heaven.

Revelation 19:7-9 speaks of the bride of Christ who “has made herself ready” and is “arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”

We, the Bride, are being purified for our marriage to Jesus, the Lamb of God.

Let us eagerly embrace our purification just as a bride prepares for her wedding day.
