Christmas is indisputably the most joyous season of the year. For many Americans, 2015 will prove especially memorable.

Mele Kalikimaka

The American Northeast is experiencing record highs this Christmas season, prompting some to herald “Global warming!” (Every area of the world has its own record highs and record lows for every day of the year. It’s called weather.)

Others, especially Hawaiian shirt-lovers like me, are grateful for this temporary change of temperature, if not of venue. (Those who flew down to Florida for the holidays just for the weather may have wasted their money.)

Regardless of the weather wherever you are, may we all remember the reason for the season.

In the Gospel of Luke 2:10-11, we read: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”

Remember, it is truly “Joy to the World, the Lord is come!

May you all have a marvelous Christmas season. “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests (Luke 2:14).”

In search of Big Brother – Part 1

In search of Big Brother (to restore sanity to an insane world)

Part 1 – Trends to Tyranny

In October 1996, I wrote, “The world is going crazy, and we can’t stop it or get off. Instead, many seek a Superman to set it right. But will our Clark Kent save us, or enslave us?”

Since then, things have gotten far, far worse.

BB01

Nearly two decades ago, I wrote, “We are living in the midst of an age of transformation unlike that of any other, an age of incredible opportunities and growth coupled with unimaginable horror. Global changes are occurring before our very eyes, life-transforming changes which impact everyone who reads this. What does the future hold in store for us? There are many visions of the future. Not being a prognosticator, I cannot tell you what will happen. But I can point out some ominous trends.”

9/11 changed the world as we knew it and the Obama presidency has fundamentally transformed America. Orwellian trends which began more than 50 years ago have reached critical mass and We, the People, seem helpless to stop it.

We are at a pivotal point in history where civilization itself seems in jeopardy and what each one of us does (or does not do) will determine the outcome.

As the year 1984 approached, Orwell’s 1984 became in vogue. Interest in Orwellian themes reemerged during the Clinton administration. At that time, I wrote a series of essays which are even more relevant today, given the massive expansion of the federal government and the powers of the Executive Branch under the Obama administration. (One reader recently called them prescient.)

Four Trends to Tyranny

I addressed four cultural and political trends, each of which has been magnified with 1) the advent of astonishing technological advances which have revolutionized life around the globe, 2) the reemergence of belligerent tyrannical and terrorist regimes in hot spots around the globe, and 3) the unbridled assault of political correctness advancing a socialist agenda in America.

Whether we are dealing with the massive growth of terrorism and government, mass immigration and refugee crises, or the war on climate change and on the free market, those trends inevitably lead to tyranny. (If we let them!)

Those four trends are balkanization, globalization, technophilia (progress) and technophobia (regress or primitivism). These trends have been visible for more than half-a-century and they are accelerating at a tremendous pace. Singly, they pose perplexing problems, but combined, they may prove themselves beyond our ability to deal with.

Back in the mid-1990s, Samuel Huntington envisioned a clash between Eight Civilizations; Joel Garreau dissected North America into Nine “Nations.” U.S. News & World Report described Seven Tribes in the United States and also pictured the Two Nations of America. Matthew Connelly and Paul Kennedy prophetically predicted an invasion of the West by the Rest, while Peter Brimelow documented that invasion in Alien Nation. Clearly peace on earth has not become reality.

The world is falling apart, nations are disintegrating, cultures are fragmenting, peoples are torn asunder, and many question whether Humpty Dumpty can ever get a face lift let alone be repaired. The centrifugal forces in society are creating sub-groups within sub-groups, cults within cults, enclaves within enclaves, in a relentless process of fragmentation – all culminating in a drive for a strong hand (e.g., strong centralized government) to bring it all back together again.

American Identity

Over the past three decades, American identity, American values, and American purpose have all undergone enormous transformation. The nature and value of citizenship itself is in peril. Who we are as a People is under attack by usurpers who would redefine our very being. The forces arrayed against Americans are unyielding.

We, like Winston Churchill, must never surrender!

President Obama contends that America is fundamentally flawed[1] and that, under his leadership, she has never been stronger.[2] His evidence refutes his contention.[3]

Fortunately, most Americans still cherish American exceptionalism[4] and reject the values foisted upon our nation and her people.[5]

Now, as we are encircled by a multitude of genuine crises (and distracted by a host of hysterical hoaxes), we must combat the agenda of Obama and the far Left and renew the vision and pursue the dream bequeathed to us by the Founders. Let us reclaim the America that became great because she was good.[6]

Our vision must be clear and our purpose focused. We must not be distracted or confused by Orwellian rhetoric from the Left.[7] To that end this essay series is dedicated.

Please join me in this journey of introspection as this series of essays explores the depths of the dangers facing us in the world, in our nation, and in our local communities. Let us, together, discern what went wrong, identify the enemy forces confronting us, and take action to restore the American Dream.

Obama Snubs Paris, Disses War on Terror

President Obama snubbed Paris – and the world – by refusing to participate in a truly historic gathering of world leaders who met in Paris to show solidarity against Islamic terrorism.

Paris01

Wow!

The world united against terrorism!

And the President watches a football game while history is in the making!

A headline highlighting this truly global event proclaimed, “Paris Is the Capital of the World Today.” But Obama missed the memo.

Obama refuses to even admit that we are at war with terrorists of any kind, let alone to identify their source and motivation. Indeed, Obama defends the perpetrators of evil around the world. Failing to identify and name the enemy, Obama fails to offer a strategy. Indeed, we see this administration giving lip service to the defense of the nation while failing to act.

Obama would rather appease and negotiate with terrorists than fight them. Obama and his Kumbaya comrades think we can live in peace with people who want to destroy us. He, and they, prefer to empathize with and accommodate the enemy.

At the same time, Obama is vociferously opposed to Israel. What he should be doing, instead, is learning from the Israelis how to fight terrorists! Instead, Obama makes war on global warming.

Millions of people participated in this astonishing global rally, representing a sea change in world opinion, but Obama fears giving his imprimatur to the movement. He does not want to validate what he opposes.

Obama certainly does not oppose Islamic terrorism. At another time, in a different war, Obama would be called a fifth columnist.

Obama’s War … on Global Warming!

The Obama administration refuses to “label” our ISIS conflict a “war” just as it refuses to call Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine an “invasion.” The world is threatened not by Islamic jihadists but by a “global network of extremists.” But “extremists” – in Obama’s lexicon – are Tea Party members.

Obama claims Republicans are waging a “war on women” while his colleagues admit to waging a “war on coal.” James Carville’s 1990s “war room” permeates the entire federal government.

But Obama refuses to fight America’s actual enemies (not just enemies of his state).

Finally, Obama has declared war – on global warming!

ObamaGlobal

Patrick J. Michaels of the Cato Institute writes, “The fact of the matter is that Mr. Obama is obsessed with climate change, even as the voters of this country, who speak through their legislatures, most assuredly are not.”

As a consequence, Obama’s infamous “war on coal” (not terrorists) continues unabated.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asserts, “Climate change is the most consequential, urgent, sweeping collection of challenges we face (9/4/14).”

Even more so than ISIS? Many far left environmental zealots concur with Clinton’s assessment.

Current Secretary of State John Kerry certainly agrees. Even as the world was becoming engulfed in flames and ISIS was gaining strength, Kerry claimed, “The bottom line is this: it is the same thing with climate change. In a sense, climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps even the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction (2/16/14).”

Global warming = weapon of mass destruction?

Employing apocalyptic language to induce fear is a common Orwellian strategy used by Obama, Clinton, Kerry, and the reigning godfather of Chicken Little fear-mongering – Al Gore.

Just last week, with the beheadings of two American journalists fresh in our minds, Kerry quoted Scripture to urge Americans to join with Muslims to combat our common foe: global warming. Kerry said, “Confronting climate change is, in the long run, one of the greatest challenges that we face, and you can see this duty or responsibility laid down in scriptures, clearly, beginning in Genesis (9/3/14).”

It sounds like Kerry and Clinton shared notes.

But science is not on their side. The American people have little concern over the apocalyptic doom-saying prophesied by the likes of Kerry and Clinton. But Americans are concerned about the extravagant measures being taken to solve an environmental myth, and they are even more concerned about the real enemies threatening and attacking America.

Instead of placating your environmentalist base (thereby squandering are dwindling resources and distracting us from our real enemies), Mr. President, why not put the needs of America first? America first! What a concept!

Update: Since publishing this column, almost daily reports in the media demonstrate the fraudulent nature of the global warming myth, even as the Obama White House escalates its promotion of that hoax. But the global warming deniers – those Obama calls unpatriotic and others want put in jail – are being proven right every day.
