Dastardly Pilgrims (and Republicans)

Paul Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress is anathema to the secular Left (even though the word “progress” is in its title – I guess they have a different kind of progress in mind).

To many progressives, the Pilgrims were genocidal white supremacists who founded a racist, sexist, and classist patriarchal society which exploited the environment – and, worst of all, they dared to believe and profess Jesus as Savior!

In other words, the Pilgrims were the Republicans and Religious Right of their times. (Yes, those dastardly Pilgrims are still at it hundreds of years later.)

The Left loves the holiday for the parties and parades (who doesn’t love a good time), though it may decry the consumerism and materialism of the holiday. But its portrayal of the Pilgrims is almost uniformly a critical caricature based upon its ideology, not on facts or history.

Thanksgiving is all about giving thanksto God!

(The Obama administration and the Left wants us to talk about global warming, gun control, racial discrimination and the like over Thanksgiving! The Left also contends that Syrian refugees are just like the Pilgrims! No, they aren’t. They are fleeing war and poverty, not religious persecution.)

The Pilgrims and Puritans were people of faith (Christian) who sought to do God’s will in the New World. The first Thanksgiving was a feast in honor of God for His Providence upon them. Indeed, America’s subsequent Founding Fathers were largely believing Christians who lived in a culture that was biblically-oriented. The secular Left would have you think otherwise.

The Left hates the book, Pilgrim’s Progress, because it points to The Good Book – the Bible.

Pilgrim’s Progress is replete with faith claims which today rile the secular Left and atheists. Christians recognize that they are pilgrims in this life and profess a faith in the one true God – something which runs counter to this pluralistic world in which we live. True progress – the progress of Pilgrims – is found in following God and not progressive ideology.

Bunyan expressed a changed life in Christ: “My name is now Christian, but my name used to be Graceless.”

Bunyan denounced the false human philosophies of this world: “Mr. Worldly-Wiseman is not an ancient relic of the past. He is everywhere today, disguising his heresy and error by proclaiming the gospel of contentment and peace achieved by self-satisfaction and works. If he mentions Christ, it is not as the Savior who took our place, but as a good example of an exemplary life. Do we need a good example to rescue us, or do we need a Savior?”

Bunyan professed a dependence upon the omniscience of God: “What God says is best, is best, though all the men in the world are against it.”

Bunyan proclaimed an allegiance to his Savior: “I have given Him my faith, and sworn my allegiance to Him; how, then, can I go back from this, and not be hanged as a traitor?”

Bunyan asserted a certain hope for the future: “I seek a place that can never be destroyed, one that is pure, and that fadeth not away, and it is laid up in heaven, and safe there, to be given, at the time appointed, to them that seek it with all their heart. Read it so, if you will, in my book.”

Bunyan championed the truth and efficacy of God’s Word: “Not that the heart can be good without knowledge, for without knowledge the heart is empty. But there are two kinds of knowledge: the first is alone in its bare speculation of things, and the second is accompanied by the grace of faith and love, which causes a man to do the will of God from the heart.”

Bunyan extolled the God of the Bible: “Is there anything more worthy of our tongues and mouths than to speak of the things of God and Heaven?”

Bunyan pointed people to the cross of Christ: “God’s grace is the most incredible and insurmountable truth ever to be revealed to the human heart, which is why God has given us His Holy Spirit to superintend the process of more fully revealing the majesty of the work done on our behalf by our Savior. He teaches us to first cling to, and then enables us to adore with the faith He so graciously supplies, the mercy of God. This mercy has its cause and effect in the work of Jesus on the cross.”

Bunyan exhorted the lost and hopeless to turn to God: “Wake up, see your own wretchedness, and fly to the Lord Jesus. He is the righteousness of God, for He Himself is God. Only by believing in His righteousness will you be delivered from condemnation.”

Bunyan praised the superiority of truth: “For to speak the truth, there are but few that care thus to spend their time, but choose rather to be speaking of things to no profit.”

My fellow Americans – and all those throughout the world reading this – I exhort you to heed the wise counsel of Paul Bunyan and – instead of following the White House’s advice to discuss climate change – look to our Creator and praise Him for all that He has wrought in His creation and in our lives.

The Left Goes Gaga Over Paris Attack

In the aftermath of the horrendous, 9/11-style, coordinated terrorist attack on Paris by Islamic jihadists, the Left, by and large, has demonstrated its capacity to rationalize evil, ignore reality, and dismiss the truth.

While many mourned the loss of life and were roused to defeat the enemy that has become our implacable foe, others either denied or dismissed this existential threat, blamed America (Bush, conservatives) for the attack, or refused to call ISIS either Islamic or evil.

Some continued to assert that ISIS is on the run, or that climate change is a greater threat than terrorism, or that gun control is the answer – all various attempts to escape the reality of life and the world as it is, not the world as liberals think it should be.

But first, kudos to Saturday Night Live for exhibiting class “with a brief, moving tribute to the city of Paris delivered by cast member Cecily Strong, clad in a black dress.” Strong declared: “Paris is the city of lights and here in New York City, we know that light will never go out. Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. We stand with you.”

Vive la France!

Now, on to the rest.

Paris Attacked – So What?

Black Lives Matter proved, once again, that the only lives that matter to it are those exceptionally few black lives killed by white cops. Its response to massive death in Paris was despicable, as noted in statements and tweets from its members.

Prepare for a shock as you read this set of expletive-laden tweets expressing hatred toward Parisians for taking the spotlight away from BLM, which is nothing more than a racial grievance organization promoting victimhood and espousing violence.

Blame Bush, Conservatives, and America

Even in the seventh year of the Obama administration, the Left blames George W. Bush for everything – even events and situations created by Obama’s own policies and actions.

All three Democrat presidential contenders, in one way or another, blamed the former President (former by two elections) for the Paris terrorist attack. Salon blamed both Bush and America. It’s headline spoke volumes: “Our terrorism double standard: After Paris, let’s stop blaming Muslims and take a hard look at ourselves.” Ourselves? Salon fails to discern the evil hearts of terrorists and, instead, attacks fellow Americans.

Salon took to task those nasty conservatives who leapt to the conclusion that Islamic terrorists were to blame, “even though there was no evidence and practically nothing was known about the attackers,” claiming their motivation was to seize this “violence” (note: not “terrorism”) “as an opportunity to demonize Muslims and refugees from Muslim-majority countries.”

No evidence? How about the modus operandi? The nature of the attacks themselves. Witnesses who heard what the terrorists said?

The liberal media blamed conservatives for the fact that terrorists attacked Paris. Salon tweeted: “Real terror unfolds in Paris. Perhaps this will convince the right to done down their incessant violent rhetoric.”

In their contorted logic, what we said caused innocent Muslims to viciously attack someone else.

Salon also posted a lengthy, rambling, incoherent essay blaming violent, elimination rhetoric on the Right for this – and other – terrorist attacks. According to Salon, “Real terrorists have killed people in the streets of Paris. The right-wing media needs to take note of that fact and moderate their rhetoric and abusive language accordingly.”

They continue: “Given the American right-wing’s casual habit of using violent language to describe their foes, and to gin up fear and anxiety among the movement conservative base, the Fox News’ right-wing echo chamber and its elites should be ashamed given the death and destruction that terrorism actually reaps in practice.”

(Salon should read those Black Lives Matter tweets noted above.)

For quite a few years, the Left has redefined terrorism to actually exclude terrorist actors and activities, and instead to demonize conservatives, the Tea Party, and Christians (who are actually the targets of Islamic jihadists).

Blame Climate Change Myth, Not Fact of ISIS Terror

Yet again, the far Left is using yet another tragedy to promote its phony climate change agenda. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the openly Socialist Democrat presidential candidate claimed, “In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism.”

This is in keeping with the Obama administration’s viewpoint, which has, on at least 23 occasions, claimed that climate change poses a greater national security threat than Islamic terrorism (which it doesn’t call by that name).

Make Love, Not War

The pacifist War Is Not The Answer contingent greeted this latest destructive attack on Western Civilization with its Sixties-style “make love, not war” mantra. Pop icon Madonna argued, “Yes, there are people who have no respect for human life and there are people that do atrocious, degrading and unforgivable things to other human beings, but we will never ever, ever change this world that we live in if we do not change ourselves, if we do not change the way that we treat one another on a daily basis.”

In other words, we need to change before the terrorists stop committing terror. Applying the same logic, we should not arrest criminals but, rather, change ourselves until they stop their criminal activities.

Madonna, continued, “Only love will change the world, but it’s very hard to love unconditionally and it’s very hard to love that which we do not understand, or that which is different than we are. But we have to or this will go on and on forever.”

Again, it is our fault for not understanding them, and until we understand them, terrorism will not end. Most rational people do understand that these are evil people committing evil acts.

Nevertheless, “fired MSNBC personality Krystal Ball” insisted: “Most powerful response to radical hate is radical love. Open your hearts wider and love harder.”

This is the Barack Obama Model for World Peace, a model proven wrong time and again.

Release Terrorists; Take in Refugees; Spurn Persecuted Christians

So, we can’t call the terrorists what they are – terrorists – and we aren’t supposed to fight back against those self-same terrorists who want to destroy us – because it wouldn’t be, according to our Commander-in-Chief, in keeping with our American values.

(Mr. President, you don’t adhere to “American values.”)

Now, we find ourselves in a panorama from Hell. At one and the same time, the Obama administration is releasing more Gitmo detainees (i.e. terrorists), even as it brings into America even more Syrian refugees (many of whom are undoubtedly terrorists), while utterly ignoring the plight of Christians who are persecuted by the terrorists it refuses to fight.

Some would call that crazy!

President Obama has just released five more Yemeni terrorists from Gitmo, while continuing its efforts to “accept 10,000 Syrian refugees,” with a goal of absorbing 100,000 refugees annually. Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton actually wants to increase the number of refugees brought into America.

Clinton’s senatorial successor in New York, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, concurs, saying, “I think what we could be doing more of is dealing with the humanitarian crisis. I wish we were focused on how we could create relief for millions of families that are streaming out of Syria. I’ve seen our European partners really pick up the pace and take significant responsibility for these families. What Germany has done is outstanding. I think America should be doing more.”

In the meantime, Obama’s State Department (once run by Hillary), has denied visas for Christians being persecuted in Iraq. This falls on Obama’s shoulders.

At the G20 Summit in Turkey, Obama said, “We have to, each of us, do our part, and the United States has to step up and do its part. When I hear folks say that, well, maybe we should just admit the Christians but not the Muslims. When I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which person who’s fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted. When some of those folks themselves come from families who benefitted from protection when they were fleeing political persecution – that’s shameful. That’s not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion.”

(Mr. President, you don’t know “who we are.”)

ISIS is Neither Islamic Nor Evil

The Obama administration continues to claim that Islamic terrorists are not Islamic and it refuses to recognize that what they engage in is terrorism. Last Saturday (the day after the Paris attacks) all three Democrat presidential candidates avoided the stark reality of global Islamic jihad.

(The Left will soon discover that ISIS is more dangerous that campus radicals.)

Dan Kimmel, a [Democrat] candidate for a Minnesota state representative seat” tweeted: “ISIS isn’t necessarily evil. It is made up of people doing what they think is best for their community. Violence is not the answer, though.”

That logic would justify every serial killer and terrorist throughout human history.”

But ISIS is Islamic and ISIS is evil. The evil of ISIS derives from a defect in the human heart, not a product of economic deprivation. Obama’s ideas of putting ISIS on welfare are ludicrous.

Gun Control Will Stop Jihadists

Other proposed solutions to end the jihadist threat include the liberal favorite: gun control. Hint: gun control never works to achieve its stated goals. Gun control only serves to aid tyrants and dictators, terrorists and criminals. If any of those victims in Paris had been armed, they might not have become victims. Weapons in the hands of law-abiding citizens are a game changer for good.

Nonetheless, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America tweeted: “Our hearts are with the victims and survivors of the horrific mass shooting and violent attacks in Paris today.” The attached photo bore the words: “We are united in mourning all lives lost to gun violence.”

Those lives weren’t lost due to gun violence, but due to terrorists intent upon doing evil.

Appeasement Is the Answer

Like gun control, appeasement never works. Still, Obama is intent upon continuing his disastrous foreign policy. In light of the Paris attack, Obama said, “The strategy we are pursuing … that’s the strategy we are going to have to pursue. And we are going to continue to generate more partners for that strategy.”

The strategy that created ISIS and mushroomed it into a world-threatening terrorist state is the strategy that Obama intends to continue?

Appeasement encourages aggression and leads to defeat and subjugation.

ISIS is on the Run

Obama’s false claims that Al-Qaeda is on the run, that the war on terror is over, that ISIS is JV, that ISIS is contained, ad infinitum, were amplified by yet another claim, this one from a Muslim apologist who argues that the Paris attack is a sign of weakness and not strength on the part of ISIS. (Just as Obama claimed Putin’s many acts of aggression are really signs of weakness.)

This apologist reasons thus: “There is a reason ISIL still want to appear so powerful, why they don’t want to acknowledge that the land they control has been taken from weak enemies, that they are pinned down by airstrikes, or that just last weekend they lost a significant part of their territory.”

“ISIL don’t want you to know they would quickly be crushed if they ever faced a proper army on a battlefield.”

“They want you to fear them. They want you to get angry. They want all of us to become hostile, and here is why – ISIL’s strategy is to split the world into two camps. It is that black and white. Again, we know this because they told us.”

Except, of course, they haven’t. This phony propaganda is designed to dismiss and discount the danger posed by ISIS, to thwart the sense of urgency the West sees in combating that terrorist threat, and to enable the status quo to continue until the West has been defeated.

I’m sure the current President of the United States would rally behind this apologist’s opinion, just as he has heralded all of the many unprecedented accomplishments of his tenure in the Oval Office. After all, according to Obama, America has never been stronger and the world has never been safer.

But for those who live in the real world, neither of those claims is true.

ISIS Is Contained!

Just hours after proclaiming that “ISIS is contained,” President Obama was again proven wrong about the War on Terror (that he refuses to name as such) when Islamic jihadists conducted a devastating 9/11-style attack on Paris.

The JV team has vexed this administration, which refuses to recognize the evil of Islamic jihad. Instead, the Obama administration targets law-abiding Americans, conservatives, and Christians, and anyone but jihadists!

Obama suggests that this evil which must be defeated can be assuaged by welfare or through diplomacy. Obama’s agenda appears designed solely to appease and submit to Islamists!

Will Obama continue to claim that America has never been stronger and that we are not at war with jihadists? Will he still boast of not having a strategy? Will he continue to ignore terrorism in America’s homeland?

President Francois Hollande has the right idea. He declared that his nation would “be merciless toward the barbarians of Islamic State group” promising to “act by all means anywhere, inside or outside the country.”

Headline: “A nightmare in Paris, an attack on the world.”

The last time Paris was attacked, Obama skipped a gathering of world leaders to watch TV. Will he go to Paris this time?

Veterans Honored: A Personal Story

I was both embarrassed and encouraged.

Last Sunday, our church surprised the many veterans in our congregation with a rousing thank you. As reported on Facebook:

“What a delightful day! We had a blast thanking our veterans after each service with big applause, cheering and donuts! Thank you to all who serve and have served! And thank you to all who participated today in making the cheering and donut enjoyment happen!! Have a wonderful Veteran’s Day this week!”

Why Was I Embarrassed? Encouraged?

Not to take away from any of the many men and women who have served or are faithfully serving their country, but I don’t feel somehow worthy of that honor.

When I think of those wounded (physically, mentally, emotionally) or who have given their all, who am I?

We see the plight of wounded warriors and their families suffering after all of their sacrifices, yet our government continually fails them. The Veterans Administration fails them. Extremely well-paid politicians fail them. Our brave servicemen and women see pay and benefit cuts, a downsized military, and upsized danger.

Yet, our troops remain resolved to protect and defend the nation they love.

Even though the government and politicians have failed the institution that keeps America (and much of the world) safe, the nation still loves her men and women in uniform. Despite strong anti-military sentiments in the media, entertainment, and academia, the American people remain patriotic and supportive of those who willingly put themselves in harm’s way.

We see that patriotic spirit and love of those in the military – which warms the hearts of servicemen around the globe – at work in countless ways (kind words, respect, care packages, prayers, etc.).

Though it seems that the Obama administration has gone out of its way to wreak havoc within the military and relinquish the hard-fought victories it has won in various places around the world, the fighting spirit of the American military (and of We, the People) has not diminished.

Sarah Palin at CPAC

I was also deeply moved at CPAC 2015 when Sarah Palin paid tribute to veterans and the American military. It was very touching to hear her words in that auditorium and to be among the veterans standing to receive applause from the audience.

Palin wowed the audience with her mama grizzly love and support for our troops as she demonstrated an intimate understanding of the military ethos.

Palin observed (as Abraham Lincoln before her) that we should take care of those who have taken care of us. Palin said,

“America hands over her sons and her daughters in service with the promise that they’re going to be taken care of. Our troops are promised … that a grateful nation will spare no expense to patch them up and bring them back to health when wounded. Well, we, their mothers and their fathers and their husbands and their wives, we’re here to collect on the promises made.”

Palin lambasted the pacifist mindset which currently pervades the intelligentsia and which is anathema to victory, saying, “the thing that those vets, from the Revolutionary War, what they had, that today’s troops don’t, is victory. And that is the thing that they cherish most. They deserve to know that their sacrifices are not in vain. To know that what they fought for, and what their friends died for was worth it.”

Palin praised the military for its purpose and prowess, contending:

“Aside from God Almighty, what is the only force strong enough to keep this barbaric rolling tide at bay? The only thing standing in between us and savages? It’s the red, white, and blue. It’s the United States military.”

Understanding the Reagan Doctrine (peace through strength), Palin realizes that a strong military is essential to obtaining and preserving peace. Appeasement always entices evil tyrants and terrorists to pursue their evil ends. Palin noted:

“Oh, the naive Obama State Department. They say ‘We can’t kill our way out of war.’ Really? Tell that to the Nazis. Oh, wait. You can’t, because they’re dead. We killed ‘em.”

And Palin exhorted her listeners, vowing, “We will consign radical Islam to the ash heap of history, just like the Nazis before them.”

My Own Story

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy about a year before the Vietnam War ended. My 12-year naval career ended about five years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Highlights of my time in the Navy include overseas tours in Japan, Scotland, and Turkey, as well as brief naval deployments in the North Atlantic, North Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Few can say that they have been to Diego Garcia. Working at NSA for a number of years was also instructive and invigorating (my, how it has grown since my time in service).

I was blessed to meet my future wife in Scotland and to have my second reenlistment ceremony in Glamis Castle. I remain blessed to be an American in the most exceptional nation on earth.

In Defense of Kim Davis and the Rule of Law

Some have likened Kim Davis to Rosa Parks. Others, to the Devil.

You will recall that Davis came under fire for putting her newfound faith into practice. Her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples has prompted foes to bring out the long knives.

The furor surrounding Kim Davis’ refusal to issue same-sex marriage licenses overlooks the obvious: Kim Davis is being faithful to both her conscience and the rule of law.

How can that be, you ask? Let me explain.

Conscientious Objector

The Left cherishes civil disobedience when it is for a politically correct cause, but not when Christians stand up for traditional values and faithful adherence to biblical teaching or when they seek to defend the original intent of the Constitution.

Davis, a fairly recent convert to Christianity, cited her allegiance to her Christian faith as the overriding factor in her decision not to issue same-sex marriage licenses in Rowan County, KY.

As reported by Eagle Rising,

Davis “has declined to sign her name to marriage certificates that defy God’s natural design for the timeless institution and has requested, as a simple accommodation, that either her name be removed from the marriage licenses, thus eliminating her personalized acquiescence to the Supreme Court’s novel attempt to usurp God’s authority and redefine this cornerstone institution, or, alternatively, ‘to allow licenses to be issued by the chief executive of Rowan County or [by] developing a statewide, online marriage license process.’”

In other words, Davis does not want to be forced to affirm an action which she regards as illegal and immoral. At the time, any marriage licenses issued in her county would bear her name. This is very similar to the government forcing pastors and priests, rabbis and imams, to perform same-sex marriage contrary to their theological beliefs.

(An often overlooked aspect of compelling people to attend or ministers to perform a same-sex wedding is that one of the questions asked is, ‘Does anyone object to this wedding?’” Silence is assent.)

Bryan Fischer, from the American Family Association, explained why Christians should decline a gay wedding invitation: “For exactly the same reason a Christian baker should politely decline to bake a gay wedding cake. It sends a message of affirmation for something God has plainly condemned.” He added, “How much more the pastor sanctioning ungodly behavior?” Or, for that matter, government officials putting the imprimatur of the government on that behavior.

Davis was jailed for six days for doing the right thing. Since then, an accommodation was made: “the Office of County Clerk of Rowan County no longer puts Davis’s name on marriage licenses but instead uses ‘Rowan County’ where her name is supposed to go.”

Davis’s attorney, Matthew Staver of Liberty Counsel, issued the following statement: “We are pleased that Kim Davis has been ordered released. She can never recover the past six days of her life spent in an isolated jail cell, where she was incarcerated like a common criminal because of her conscience and religious convictions. She is now free to return to her family, her coworkers and the office where she has faithfully served for the past 27 years. We will continue to assist Kim and pursue the multiple appeals she has filed.”

Just because it’s “the law” does not make it either constitutional or right!

Allegiance to the Rule of Law

Not only is Davis following her conscience, she is also obeying the rule of law. As noted by Godfather Politics, “Davis took an oath to uphold the Kentucky Constitution which forbids same-sex marriage.”

That’s right, the current Kentucky Constitution forbids same-sex marriage.

As Eagle Rising reports:

“When she took her oath, United States law, the Kentucky Constitution and the Kentucky Revised Statutes all reflected the millennia-old definition of natural marriage: ‘Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Kentucky.’”

“The Kentucky Legislature has yet to change this law one jot or tittle. Instead, five left-wing extremist lawyers in Washington, D.C., issued an opinion presuming to move the goalposts mid-game. Court opinions are not ‘the law of the land.’ Judges don’t make laws – only the legislature can do that. Kim Davis is not defying the law; she is upholding it as codified.”

Staver added: “Not long ago 75 percent of Kentuckians passed the state’s marriage amendment. Today a Christian is imprisoned for believing what the voters affirmed: marriage is between a man and a woman. Five people on the Supreme Court imposed their will on 320 million Americans and unleashed a torrent of assaults against people of faith. Kim Davis is the first victim of this tragedy.”

Seventy five percent of Kentucky voters approved Kentucky Constitutional Amendment 1, which explicitly states:

“Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Kentucky. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized.”

Constitutional scholar Mark Levin asked an important question: “How can it possibly be that the law of the land that these judges swear to uphold, the law of the land under which they have whatever authority they have, can be abused by them and then we are forced to live by the law of the judiciary?”

Levin added, “The court had no business whatsoever getting into this issue of same-sex marriage. NONE!” The problem, according to Levin, is not with Ms. Davis, or the State Constitution, or the Federal Constitution. Rather, the problem stems from “five justices who acted outside the law, who violated the law, and now we have people saying ‘follow the rule of law.’”

Remember: judicial activism is, by definition, unconstitutional.

Opposition to Unjust Laws

Our Declaration of Independence clearly reserves for the People the right to oppose unjust laws and, even, an unjust government. It reads, “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.”

Godfather Politics provides “a biblical case” for a Christian opposing particular government edicts, using biblical examples, and examples from recent American judicial cases, to make its case.

  • Peter and the other disciples were imprisoned for preaching in the name of Jesus, contrary to civil law.
  • Hebrew midwives spared newborn males contrary to the edict of the Pharaoh.
  • Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed‑nego all forsook civil laws which were contrary to God’s law – at pain of death.
  • Justin Martyr and other second-century Christians risked execution rather than worship false gods commanded by the Emperor.
  • Judge Randall J. Hekman refused to permit a thirteen-year-old girl to get an abortion.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is rightly renowned as a hero for his opposition to the Nazi regime and its usurpation of the German church and nation. He said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

The United States judiciary is increasingly acting in a tyrannical fashion, abrogating to itself constitutional prerogatives given only to the legislative branch. It is making law to achieve politically correct outcomes. When it does so, it’s rulings are themselves unconstitutional.

We are urged by World, “Even if you think Davis is wrong (I don’t), she is following her conscience before her God and that is all God requires in debatable matters: “Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind” (Romans 14:5).”

The writer adds: “Kim Davis evidently reasons from the civil disobedience of Peter and John, who ‘greatly annoyed’ (Acts 4:2) the powers that be to the point of getting themselves locked up. Upon release from jail they were warned by the judge (a striking parallel with Judge Bunning and the Davis case) not to violate law again, and they replied, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard’ (verses 19-20).”

Hypocrisy on the Left

The Left is blatantly hypocritical on these clear-cut issues. They condemn behaviors by others that they extol in themselves. Political correctness is the dividing line in all these cases.

Hypocrisy extends to the White House and Justice Department. “President Obama who refused to enforce the Federal Defense of Marriage Act because he thought it was unconstitutional.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz asks: “Where is the call for the Mayor of San Francisco to resign for creating a sanctuary city resulting in the murder of American citizens by criminal illegal aliens welcomed by his lawlessness? Where is the call for Obama to resign after 6½ years of ignoring and defying our immigration laws, our welfare reform laws, even his own Obamacare? When the Mayor of San Francisco resigns, when President Obama resigns then we can talk about Kim Davis. But for every talking head who goes on TV and says this one county clerk in Kentucky is a threat to our liberty, what they are saying makes no sense.”

Victor David Hanson notes, “Hundreds of liberal sanctuary cities have announced that federal immigration law does not apply to them. That scary, neo-Confederate idea of legal nullification was sanctioned by the Obama administration – in a way it never would have been if a city had suspended the Endangered Species Act, emissions standards, or gun-control legislation.”

Godfather Politics also addressed this blatant hypocrisy:

“Davis’s arrest was met with cheers by same-sex marriage advocates who for some reason did not demand imprisonment of officials who lawlessly issued gay marriage licenses in clear contravention of state and federal laws. Take, for example, Democrat  who is currently the California lieutenant governor. Back in 2004, when gay marriage was banned under California state law, Newsom openly defied the law and used his power as the mayor of San Francisco to force taxpayer-funded government clerks to issue gay marriage licenses.”

“More than 3000 same-sex couples violated the law, and not one of them was fined or went to prison. This says nothing of the clerks who issued them marriage licenses.”

“Why wasn’t anything done to Tonya Parker, a black, openly lesbian Texas judge who refused ‘to conduct straight-couple marriage ceremonies in her state until same-sex couples can wed?’”

Davis is Not Alone

In the Old Testament, Elijah discovered that he was not alone – there were 7,000 other people who had refused to worship false idols. So, too, Kim Davis is not alone in standing up for truth and justice.

CNS News reported: “The belief of the Kentucky County Clerk, Ms. Davis, that the Supreme Court decision in Obergefell interpreting the Constitution as mandating the legalization of same-sex marriage in all American states is an egregious error and distortion of the Constitution is a belief that many other thoughtful persons share.  Her view that the federal government must defer to the states regarding the regulation of marriage is one that has very deep historical, legal, and practical roots.  Ms. Davis certainly has a constitutional right to express those views.  Although those views may irritate Judge Bunning, he cannot jail her for holding or expressing those views.”

In North Carolina, “More than 30 North Carolina magistrates so far have refused to perform weddings since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriages in all 50 states.”

Moreover, “In Oregon, Judge Vance Day has picked up the baton of resistance from Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis. While Davis sits in prison, Judge Day will continue the fight for both religious liberty and resistance to immorality. … The judge recently announced that he will not perform any same-sex marriage ceremonies. A spokesman for the judge said that ‘It’s an exercise of his religious freedom rights under the First Amendment.’”

Resign or Oppose?

For decades, the Left has sought to privatize religion in America, to remove it from the public square. They have falsely asserted a “wall of separation” between church and state and they have rewritten the First Amendment to uphold the concept of freedom from religion, not freedom of religion.

Bill Berkowitz accused Davis of conflating “her responsibilities as an elected official with her self-aggrandizing and idiosyncratic religious notions.” Funny, but those “idiosyncratic religious notions” were self-evident truths for centuries in America. Middle America still believes in them.

Time and time again, Christians – motivated by their faith – have spoken truth to power in the name of justice and freedom. Christians were at the forefront of the abolitionist movement. Christians led the Civil Rights Movement. Today, Christians are spearheading opposition to the countercultural values of the Sixties which have become enshrined in academia, the media, Hollywood, and the government, and they are resisting the unconstitutional, coercive efforts of those in authority who would subvert freedom and the rule of law.

Some argue that Davis is trying to force others to accept her beliefs, when, in reality, it is gay activists and their supporters who are seeking to force Christians (and others) to both accept and endorse the gay agenda, which includes normalization of the gay lifestyle and gay marriage. In reality, the progressively left-wing culture is forcing its beliefs on Christians.

Contrary to assertions by the Left, the Constitution is compatible with biblical precepts because the Bible informed the worldview of the Framers.

Regarding Davis, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy said, “Great respect, it seems to me, has to be given to people who resign rather than do something they view as morally wrong, in order to make a point. … the rule of law is that, as a public official in performing your legal duties, you are bound to enforce the law.”

Kennedy ignores reality: If all the godly people resign from public office, that would leave only ungodly people running the government.” Is that what we want?

American history is replete with examples of people standing up to illegal and immoral governance.

“Law of the Land”

In 1857, the Supreme Court ruled in the infamous Dred Scott case. Prior to and after its decision, abolitionists (led primarily by Christians) fought for the emancipation of slaves, rejecting this flagrantly immoral and unconstitutional decision. Likewise, Abraham Lincoln led the nation in opposition to this grievous injustice which was contrary to the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.

Abraham Lincoln fought a war in defiance of Dred Scott. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were put in place specifically to overrule Dred Scott – which, liberals assert, was the “law of the land” at that time.

Are Roe v. Wade (abortion) and Obergefell v. Hodges (same-sex marriage) the “law of the land?” No! The Constitution is the law of the land (see Article VI of the Constitution).

Abraham Lincoln’s nuanced view of Supreme Court decisions is as incisive and salient now as then (emphasis added):

“[Supreme Court] decisions must be binding in any case upon the parties to a suit as to the object of that suit, while they are also entitled to very high respect and consideration in all parallel cases by all other departments of the Government. And while it is obviously possible that such decision may be erroneous in any given case, still the evil effect following it, being limited to that particular case, with the chance that it may be overruled and never become a precedent for other cases, can better be borne than could the evils of a different practice. At the same time, the candid citizen must confess that if the policy of the Government upon vital questions affecting the whole people is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court, the instant they are made in ordinary litigation between parties in personal actions the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having to that extent practically resigned their Government into the hands of that eminent tribunal.”

As Ramesh Ponnuru noted, “the Lincoln administration did not attempt to undo the Supreme Court’s decision with regard to the parties in Dred Scott v. Sandford but also refused to speak or act as though it were correct. It recognized that blacks could be citizens regardless of that decision, and granted passports and patents accordingly.”

The Cost of Discipleship

Isn’t it ironic? The very people most outraged at Davis, accusing her of breaking the law, are the very ones who threaten wanton violence in the name of justice.

As reported by The Federalist Papers, Davis “and her husband have been the target of threats by those supporting gay marriage, including threats of rape, murder and arson.” Vulgarity and death threats populate Twitter and Facebook.

Speaking of these bullies, Davis said, “They told my husband they were going to burn us down while we slept in our home. He’s been told that he would be beaten up and tied up and made to watch them rape me. I have been told that gays should kill me.”

The Family Research Council recently honored Davis with its “Cost of Discipleship Award.”

FRC noted, “Kim isn’t ordering her office to stop issuing marriage licenses permanently. She’s simply asked that, as a Christian with strong religious convictions, her name no longer appear on them. And for that, she was jailed.”

Tearfully, Kim explained, “I am here before you this morning with a seemingly impossible choice, which I do not wish on any of my fellow Americans. My conscience or my freedom.” She choice the former.

Those who love liberty and the rule of law, you should support Davis, who is championing both. If it weren’t for people like Kim Davis, America might still be divided by slave and free states.

Compromise is Defeat

Americans are almost literally up in arms over the radical transformation of America into something she was never intended to be – and the GOP compromises with those spearheading that transformation!

The GOP leadership rails against Obama’s appeasement of terrorists, tyrants, and criminals, yet that very same leadership capitulate to the Left and the media (redundancy alert).

Compromise

At the very moment of victory in 2014, Senate Majority Leadership Mitch McConnell conceded defeat. McConnell pledged to forego any government shutdowns. That’s right: Conservatives won, so McConnell started throwing down our weapons.

The Iranian Nuclear Arms Treaty (in everything but name) should never have passed. The Senate should have insisted that this treaty go through the normal treaty process. Instead, succumbing to political expediency, RINOs in the Senate shirked their constitutional duties and enabled the worst deal in American history to give our enemies the upper hand.

Planned Parenthood should have been defunded. The American people were utterly disgusted (by vast majorities) with the barbaric atrocities taking place in Planned Parenthood facilities across the nation. Investigative videos are still be released to the public and are all available online. Boehner and McConnell failed to seize the moment – this unique moment in history – to cripple the industry which epitomizes the Holocaust of our times in our nation.

The recent two-year budget deal also conceded defeat to Obama and his left-wing agenda. Utter capitulation.

The Spirit is willing, but the Senate is weak. Far too many Republicans are willing to go along to get along.

Moreover, those self-same representatives of the People actively oppose those who are actually doing the work of the People. The Quislings in our midst treat the patriots – who are defending the Constitution and who are in alignment with the will of the People – as if they were the enemy.

Like Patrick Henry, Ted Cruz is unwelcome by those who have aligned themselves with the status quo. The Resistance is always hated by the Establishment.

Mitt Romney, the Republican standard-bearer in 2012, recently lamented the very existence of conservative talk radio and right-wing blogs because they make it harder to forge friendships with our adversaries to get things done in Washington.

Romney and his cohorts believe that “getting things done” means enacting laws and growing the government. Stopping bad laws is at least as important as enacting good laws. (Don’t we already have enough laws?)

Our Founding Fathers would be horrified to see the lack of vision and grit within the ranks of the so-called conservative leadership. Ronald Reagan had both vision and grit.

Reagan spoke in bold terms, clearly distinguishing himself from his opponents. He forthrightly stated that government was the problem. He clearly expressed his love of America and her people, extolled American exceptionalism, and championed what America could accomplish.

Reagan denounced and defeated the Evil Empire when none thought that possible. Reagan reignited the free market and restored the American military, often in opposition to those on his own team. He did so with a deep grasp of our nation’s history, Constitution, People, and destiny.

Moreover, Reagan routinely made his case to the People. He connected with them in a powerful and personal way. He made his ideas (which were distinctly American in nature) easy to understand and support. His courage and optimism won the day and it was Morning in America once again.

Not so with today’s GOP leadership. Few of our elected leaders have either the vision or the courage to do what the American people elected them to do (or what Reagan would choose to do). What would Ronald Reagan do?
